A monster winter storm earlier this week pounded the state of new york, leaving it buried under six feet thats about three meters of snow. If forecast hold true for this storm thats coming, new york will have gotten a years worth of the white stuff in just three days. At least eight deaths in western new york are being blamed on the Winter Weather so far. At least three of them from heart attacks suffered while the victims were shoveling snow. Residence across the northeast are being told to stay indoors. Almost two meters of snow fell over the last 24 hours in buffalo. Helpless drivers were everywhere. Many roads had to be closed, and hundreds of vehicles were trapped. Emergency workers did all they could to reach people stranded on the highways. This morning we are learning more about a failed mission to rescue american journalist james foley and other hostages held in syria. Early this summer two dozen u. S. Special Operations Forces were dropped in Northern Syria by heavily armed blackhawk helicopters. Four hostages including foley were thought to be in an oil refinery controlled by isis, but the prisoners were not there. Michelle sigona is in new york. Good morning, annemarie. The secret nighttime mission was authorized by president obama because it was believed the hostages were in danger. On the ground the u. S. Forces exchanged fire with isis militants. One american commando was injured. The rest returned safely. The mission to try to rescue foley and the others was revealed after isis posted a gruesome video of his execution. Fenced off now. Its gutted inside and unsafe to enter, except for fire personnel. But for some 40 years its been home to a man, who lived large, until slowed by disability. The smoke billowing out of the house. Reporter neighbors on Avocado Court called 911 and ran to his house, feeling his front doors, hot to the touch. They heard no smoke alarms.
