BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Emergency crews are ready. The police are set. The signs are up, and the cones are out. However, the crowds arenât here yet.
In fact, officials donât have a clear estimate about how many spring breakers will be here. The metrics used before, arenât working now.
âSeveral years ago, there was a rise in hotel rentals,â said Capt. Brian Dykes with the Biloxi Police Department. âIt went from about 50 percent to about 70 percent. So, we could gauge that more people were coming in or had made reservations for that particular weekend.â

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Even though city officials said that they arenât too sure of how many people are visiting the Gulf Coast this weekend after Black Beach Weekend announced events would be moved to August, they said that they are prepared for whatâs to come.
In prior years, Biloxi Police Department Capt. Brian Dykes said that between 15,000-30,000 people would come to the city.
Usually, the department would rely on hotel bookings to get an estimate on how many people were coming to the city. However, Dykes said using that method recently has been difficult.
