WINNIPEG - Global supply chain constraints, inflation and restructuring costs put pressure on NFI Group Inc.'s second quarter earnings, but the company said Wednesday that the outlook is improving.
Jennifer Winkler, an electrician of eight years at the Pembina plant, said the Thursday, May 19, announcement from NFI came as a surprise to employees who had previously been told the plant was profitable and would remain open, even during a round of layoffs in spring 2021.
According to an NFI Group release, the plant is expected to close sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022. The bus maker is working on a cost-cutting plan, a series of initiatives, to cut costs by $67 million.
