Former employee files gender discrimination lawsuit against Gentex

ZEELAND A former employee has filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against Gentex Corp. of Zeeland. The lawsuit was filed by Elizabeth Helminski of Grand Rapids in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan on Thursday, April 22. We cannot comment on a pending lawsuit, said Gentex Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications Craig Piersma. He added the company cannot comment on current or past employees, per policy. According to court documents filed by Helminski, she was fired shortly after raising concerns about bro culture at Gentex to her supervisor, Brian Brackenbury  who is also listed as a defendant in the case.

The lawsuit, filed by the Grand Rapids-based firm Pinsky, Smith, Fayette & Kennedy, names the company and an employee, an engineer named Brian Brackenbury, whose LinkedIn profile lists his current title as “Director, Connected Products & In-Cabin Sensing,” for what the lawsuit says are “violations of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Elliot Larsen Civil Rights Act for Discrimination based on gender and retaliation, to correct unlawful employment practices on the basis of gender.”
