Architecture Titan Helmut Jahn Killed In Bicycle Accident In Kane County CBS Chicago 5/10/2021 Syndicated Local – CBS Chicago CHICAGO (CBS)  Even if you didn’t know Helmut Jahn’s name, you certainly know the mark he left on Chicago’s skyline. The architectural titan died this weekend at the age of 81, after he was struck by two vehicles while riding his bicycle. Police said Jahn was killed in the accident around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Campton Hills, a Kane County suburb near St. Charles. Jahn was riding his bicycle north on Old Lafox Road approaching Burlington Road and failed to stop at the posted sign, police said. He was struck by a vehicle heading east on Burlington Road and then struck by a vehicle heading west on Burlington Road.

Prep to Reduce Calf Weaning Stress

The waiting game is one of the most difficult parts when Oren Smith weans beef calves on his Oak Hill Farm in Avella, Pennsylvania. Smith raises registered Angus and weans about 70 calves annually. To do so, he takes a conventional approach by simply separating cows and calves, knowing that the next few days will be filled with nonstop bawling. “It’s not pleasant, but you have to give them time because weaning is just something that has to be done,” he said. “It’s a lot of bawling, but you just wait for it to stop. The mothers are due for a break, and some of them are instinctively ready to move on.”

Outsourcing space missions brings travel to the human level

That is why this time around, most of the work is being outsourced. Three companies competed to build a lunar lander for NASA’s new Artemis missions to the moon: Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and long time Department of Defense contractor Dynetics. SpaceX’s design ultimately won the NASA contract, but it is very exciting to see the private sector stepping up with multiple innovative approaches to get humans back to the moon. I would not be surprised at all if the other two companies, Blue Origin and Dynetics, still move forward with their projects, as there could be private entities (or other governments) that have interests in going to the moon.

Artificial Insemination Helps Beef Producers Stay Ahead of the Competition

Beef producers have long strived to achieve top genetics in their herds, and for decades they relied solely on herd bulls to give them desirable traits such as feed efficiency, carcass merit and faster growth rates. Today, the reliance on herd bulls is still the dominant choice in the beef industry, but producers are utilizing another option — artificial insemination — to fine-tune genetic quality. The practice is becoming more common, and its popularity was hastened by the dairy industry. According to Brian Boyer, a technician supervisor for Premier Select Sires in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, the use of beef semen in AI has increased significantly, in large part due to dairy farmers crossbreeding their cows with beef. As the value of Holstein heifers declined, more milk producers began using beef semen on their cows, producing crossbred calves with beef traits that command a higher price. Inadvertently, the change forced beef producers to take a hard look at the genetic

More ups than downs with single sign on (SSO)

Single sign on, or SSO, has been around for quite some time. You probably haven’t noticed it much, but it has crept into almost every online service. You are probably using it right now for a number of websites.
