running after being knocked off line for 30 minutes the problem is being blamed on a power outage, dispatchers are still working out of a back up site. lauren demarco breaks up what went wrong. this morning 911 dispatchers in dc are working out of a back up location. we have transferred all operations over they are working well, we are getting calls dispatching calls and we have been doing that since 2:16 a.m. several surges of electricity shut down the operations at 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon. one surge struck just as the generator was turning on. effected main power and our ability to switch to the generator that was the problem. for a half hour from 1:53 p.m. until 2:16 p.m. washington dc was without 911 service. police and fire ems officials quickly turned to twitter and facebook to get the word out and provide alternate phone numbers. appeared this was going to be any extended down period then we would have contacted the media. we would have used other resour
