of a once in a generation chrysler. santa or the white house with a clear authorization for the president to push ahead with unambitious legislative agenda but a major obstacle stands on his way, a right-wing reactionary supreme court with very little public legitimacy. some familiar? this week discipline court wrapped up an immense most controversial terms in american history. scaling back decades of progress in the matter of mere weeks. we ve actually been here before. following a landslide victory in 1936, president franklin d. roosevelt was elected to a second term in office. securing what was, at the time, the largest popular vote tally in american history. fdr s victory sold out of not only a personal win, but a decisive victory for his signature legislative agenda, the new deal. despite the program s popularity amongst the american people, it faced some serious opposition at the nation s highest court, over the years, fdr watched as the supreme court, led by a group
her testimony. he does not have the courage she showed and is refusing to tell the committee what he knows. men like mark meadows who are openly defying the subpoena to testify and avoiding us as well. we d love to talk to him not under oath, but he s shown no willingness to even face questions from reporters. house minority leader mccarthy is seeking to cast doubt on miss hutchinson s testimony and the work of the committee. this is just the continuation. they re obsessed with trump and this is all they want to do, but this here say would never be allowed in the court of law. we should point out, nothing would be here say if mr. meadows or pat cipollone would testify under oath. all they need to do is tell the truth. say what they said. then everything would be clear. hutchinson is also being attacked be i the former president himself. here s some of what he told news max yesterday for an interview that aired today. this lady yesterday, there s something wrong with her
mika, the feds took his phone. that s never good, honestly. he s the architect of the attempted coup and the feds have his phone. you know, we were asking, how could this guy not be in legal trouble? apparently he seems he may be. the battle over abortion hits the states, many are wondering if there s anything the federal government can do to protect services for women and what is the state of women s rights? we ll be talking about all of that. willie is with us. good morning. willie, joe and mika, together again. the team is back. welcome to morning joe. it s tuesday, june 28th. along with joe, willie and me, u.s. special correspondent for bbc news, katty kay, and pulitzer-prize winning columnist and associate editor of the washington post eugene robinson. willie, yesterday, i m here working, we re doing a show on i think the most one of the most significant other than bush v. gore, perhaps the most significant case of this supreme court in half a century,
it s confusing. justice samuel alito said this issue is going back to states. we know that 26 states will soon, if they haven t already banned abortion. some of those states had these laws on the books before roe. those went back into effect. others has trigger laws. laws that would be triggered to go into effect if roe were to go down. each state, the trigger law goes into effect at a different time. that s why we re seeing confusion nationwide. there s one other fascinate thing going on. just a couple of hours ago, planned parenthood staid it was going to state court in utah because it was going to challenge utah s trigger law by saying that it violated the state s constitution. the reason i keep emphasizes the word state is this is no longer in the federal arena. e everything is happening in the state and that will be a big lawsuit to watch. it s really changing the legal terrain. that is fascinating. wh a twist. what let s take a look at that. i do not have a positi
restrictive, to prohibit access to drugs that the fda has authorized as safe and effective for women to use. we are also hearing from the justice department on the issue of access to abortion clinics and the fact that it s not legal under the freedom of access to clinic entrances act to block people s physical access to walk into an abortion clinic. the justice department saying it s going to make sure that that right is protected. as you can see, these are steps around the margins. this is not the biden administration saying we are going to enforce the ability for women across the country to get an abortion. that s something that only congress can do. that s why we expect a key element of what president biden will have to say to be about the election and making sure to elect politicians who will ensure a woman s right to choose in future. thanks to you, josh. this is andrea mitchell reports with our continuing breaking news coverage of the supreme court s decision overtu
