A shooting spree in Brevard County that left four dead Sunday ended the life of a retired Catholic priest who had spent 25 years in Orlando parishes, including a stint as a teacher at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. The Melbourne City Council has approved an additional homestead exemption of $25,000 for residents over the age of 65 with limited income. The exemption will go into effect for tax year 2024. Eligible residents who apply for the exemption with the Brevard County Property Appraiser will see the adjustment in their taxes due by March 31, 2025.
