white house, counsel to the president kellyanne conway. it s great to have you back here on america s newsroom. can you confirm a meeting late on sunday night with the president and brett kavanaugh? if so, was that the clincher for this nomination? i will not confirm that. but i will tell you that the president went through a very deliberative process and has 25 minus neil gorsuch scholars to choose from on his list and a transparent and accountable process. landed on a sharp legal mind. offered over 300 opinions, getting praise left, right and center from those who are rational. it is a typical tuesday morning. the president nominated a supreme court justice and is on his way to the nato summit and meeting with vladimir putin and a stop at the u.k. and continue
set up its own separate war room to run the fight to get this man, brett kavanaugh, confirmed as the next justice of the united states supreme court. to that end they re trying to paint kavanaugh not about the issues but trying to paint him as a long-time family man, a life long public servant and accomplished jurist. judge kavanaugh stood above the others because he has a lengthy record of interpreting the laws and our constitution as they were written and along the standards and adopting the philosophy that the president has laid out. this is a judge who will interpret the law, who will interpret the constitution as the founders and writers intended and not make up law or invent policy from the bench. looking at these talking points you can see they are set up to defend against the democratic attacks that kavanaugh will overturn roe versus wade and end obamacare.
fire up their base in anticipation of the mid-terms. the same lines of attack we ve seen against every other republican nominee. the same lines of attack that have been rolled out no matter who the president had gone with last night. bill: just go back to the last comment that kavanaugh made when we introduced you. inform by history, tradition and precedent. the last word precedent, that s code, right? that is roe versus wade. that is how he will likely answer that question during these hearings that will likely begin in september. is that a fair assetment? i think that is a fair assessment. i think judge kavanaugh is a judge who respects precedent. he is a serious, thoughtful judge. not a political hack. i think even people who disagree with him politically in their heart of hearts know he is supremely qualified to serve on the court. when you say he will respect precedent as a judge it doesn t mean that precedent can never be overturned. what it means it comes with great weight a
democratic process and keeping it pure. he has said that. secretary pompeo has said that. when he was c.i.a. we have all said that. we don t want anybody interfering in our democracy, anybody interfering in our democracy. it is foolish for anybody to still be going back to 2016, almost two years ago now and trying to pretend that that election result was what it was 305 electoral votes happened because of any outside interference. if you look at the money that was spent, the value of what was spent, it couldn t have swung a local dog catcher election and people know it when they re being honest. sandra: the president responded this morning to the number of families being detained at the borders after this judge rejected the administration s request for long-term detention of immigrant children. it was basically seeking a modification to the flores agreement. the judge dismissed it as dubious. does the presidency this as a
so they threw everything they possibly could at him. some of which was scandalous and just terrible. i lived through that and thought it was just awful. so i hope they ll think twice in this particular case. this man is a good man, a good family man, a brilliant lawyer, a brilliant judge. he has done a very good job for 12 years on the d.c. circuit court of appeals and proven himself. they need to wake up and say okay, we wouldn t have chosen themselves ourselves had we won the presidency but he is good and we ll let him go through. they just can t seem to do that. bill: why do you think the level of resistance is so high? number one they hate trump. they can t stand donald trump. he beat them. they were so sure that hillary clinton was going to be the next president and the first woman president and when he beat hillary and, of course, now has the opportunity of making these appointments it just is difficult for them to accept. but you know, there comes a time when as adults you h
