A man convicted earlier this month in the killing of a Daytona Beach police officer is requesting a new trial. The attorney for Othal Wallace filed a motion in the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court on Monday.
Jurors returned to the Clay County courthouse Saturday morning to begin their second day of deliberations in the trial of Othal Wallace, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the 2021 shooting death of Daytona Beach police officer Jason Raynor.
On Friday, a jury of 12 is deliberating whether Othal Wallace is guilty of first degree murder, and considering whether he should be sentenced to the death penalty.
