you can see a lot of damages here. brett, i am sorry, somebody was talking to me. so we had some reports out of nasa, our tammy leitner were saying there were people in the bahamas who maybe trapped and not able to move around. have you been able to get out enough to see whether people are doing well or anyone is trapped in their home? reporter: we have seen photos that there were some storm surge flooding on the southern end of the island. there were some roofs taken off. we are right across. we are near the atlantis resort. we ll check on the southern into nasa. we know they re requesting vehicles like jet skis and high profile vehicles to do some rescue. brett adair, our storm chaser, paradise island in the
welcome back. we re following breaking news now. at least 18 people would be killed by tornadoes in the nation s heartland. 16 of those deaths reported in arkansas where a tornado half a mile wide wiped out community it s in northern subbushes of little rock. take a look at the damage in the town of mayflower. joining us now, brett adair is a storm chaser. he actually witnessed where that tornado touched down. brett, so glad you re here to talk about it. talk us through the moments when that tornado touched down in mayplower. we watched a tornado from highway 365 which is just southwest of may sflower. we saw the tornado coming west of town. tornly, we were south of the
i m sure it will come out very, very soon. brett adair, stay safe. we ll come back to you later in the show. the skies over mississippi growing very perilous. it includes 1.4 million people has mississippi right in the bullseye. our own martin savidge is in the flight simulator. martin joins us on the phone and he s just outside of jasper, alabama, on the way to tupelo. what are the conditions like where you are? reporter: you re right. we left atlanta this morning and it was a typical southern day, partly cloudy and warm. and we re headed about 50 miles away to tupelo and it s very dark. have you heard anything from anybody on the ground in tupelo
