those lines because they will come back and haunt you. there he did take responsibility which was really, really important. so i think it showed him responsible. at the same time, in looking at the stage and especially the way kamala harris handled herself, he she looked so much more presidential. uh-huh. he looked like he was still trying to be a really good mayor of a city of 100,000. and she looked like she could take command of the country. fair enough. bret, what do you think? well, i agree with that. it was a moment of vulnerability for him to be able to say i m a real person. but the problem is voters want someone who s been effective. and his first admission is, well, i ve been ineffective. i think that is going to hurt him in the long run because it opens up the space for people to judge what he s done as mayor against how he would be as president. and that s always a big jump anyway because he s moving from trying to be a mayor to being president which is a huge l
missed opportunity for him to have a really bad first half hour of that debate. at castro s expense. and warren faded in the second half of the debate but was so strong in the beginning. and i think coming out of the gate, really set the tone from a policy level in terms of people who are looking for exactly what these candidates are going to offer them. i want to close out with brad here. what s your advice to all of those candidates that, quickly, that didn t do so well? well, they ve got to step up their game in the next debate. debates are each debate is just an overall part of the narrative, but an important part as we ve seen from the results for kamala harris and castro. joe biden especially has to up his game substantially if he wants to maintain his spot as the front-runner. all right. we are just a month away. so you guys, stay tuned. we ll be hearing more from you then. bret o donnell, david smiley, thank you all for being here. thank you.
and i don t think we should conduct foreign policy in our bathrobe at 5:00 in the morning. congresswoman congresswoman gabbard for a party that associates itself with christianity to say that it is okay to suggest that god would smile on the division families has lost all privilege to use that again. pass the torch. i m holding on to that torch. the issue is who has the guts to take on wall street? you know what, america does not want to witness a food fight. they want to know how we re going to put food on their table. what a night. joining me debate coach and president of o donnell and associates, bret o donnell. miami herald staff right, susan dell percio, and basil smikel. thank you for being here. i want to start with cottage farms kamala harris with kamala harris talking about
it is true. we don t know whether he ll show up. we don t know whether he ll have a team of advisers. i will say, as i was saying last night online, i thought that actually the format last night, i thought the moderators did a good job of including the audience and being able, also, to persistently follow lines of argument. i thought they set a good example. what trump will do in the next couple of days, we don t know, but i think we ve seen that hillary clinton through her debating career has never really been wrong-footed. in the face of a lot of different stuff coming at her, include having the four women in the audience, she managed to keep more or less on keel. james, bret, gloria, thank you all. fascinating discussion. just ahead, the possibility that more trump hot mike moments exist. and more insight into how the tape we do have got on the radar. and we ll focus more on the tone of last night s debate and how it differs from anything anyone as ever seen in moderate debate
