A mixed bag of winter weather hitting Newfoundland and Labrador is causing travel delays, school cancellations and widespread power outages Wednesday morning, with more snow, rain and wind in store for the rest of the day.
About 8,000 Newfoundland Power customers from Rose Blanche to Port aux Basques through the Port au Port Peninsula were in the dark mid-morning, with the utility citing severe weather conditions for some of the outages, and the restoration time for all is unknown.

Heavy snow falling in western Newfoundland and for much of Labrador has prompted weather warnings and cancellations, with wind warnings in place for the eastern half of the island.
