Work on the report began in 2016 when the National Academies of sciences, engineering and medicine appointed an independent Ad Hoc Committee to review the state of u. S. Election infrastructure. The committees work was supported with grants from the Carnegie Foundation corporation of new york and the william and flora hue let foundation. The committee was ask to do several things. One, document standards and resources for voting technologies. Two, examine challenges arising out of the 2016 election. Three, evaluate advances in technology currently and soon to be available that can improve voting. And, four, other offer recommendations that provide a vision of voting that is easier, accessible, reliable and verifiable. Our committee was composed of a diverse and talented group of professional
