Minister Simon Harris has said that before “asking the people to invest in RTÉ” we need to be certain the organisation is being run properly (Morning Ireland, February 1).
Using a relic of a piece of bone from the head of Saint Brigid of Kildare to promote the Catholic Church in her honour has little to do with real religion and more to do with commercialisation and exploitation (‘Relic of ‘peace-maker’ Saint Brigid has been returned home after 1,000 years’, Irish Independent, January 29).
It appears an autumn election is on the cards, and one could also happen in Britain. Irish and British autumn elections have never happened in the same year.
While your front-page article on planning permission (‘Thousands build without planning but they still get away with it’, Irish Independent, January 6) and the accompanying story inside did an excellent job of highlighting the widespread flouting of planning rules, it failed to mention the huge difficulties facing those objecting to such activities.
