The job of removing and relocating the archaeological remains of one of the largest shipwrecks of its kind to have been found anywhere in Europe started in Tallinn this week.
The 80ft-long ship from the 13th-century was unveiled during construction work in Tallinn. The vessel was used by the Hanseatic League, a mediaeval commercial and defence merchant alliance which stretched across seven modern day countries in central and northern Europe. The League even went to war with Denmark, and was known to have sacked Copenhagen
A ship dating back to 1298 was found 200 meters away from the shore in Tallin, the capital of Estonia. It is believed to have been a trading ship and was preserved exceptionally well.
