Milfoil aid approved for Lake Antoine | News, Sports, Jobs

bchristensen@ironmountaindailynews.com QUINNESEC The Breitung Township Board and Dickinson County Board on Monday contributed $3,000 each to the Lake Antoine Association for herbicide used to combat the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil in Lake Antoine. The amount is twice what the township contributed in 2020, as the cost of the herbicide has increased, Breitung Township Superintendent Steve Mulka said. “Like everything else this last year, there are shortages,” Mulka said, a reference to how the pandemic has affected supply. Eurasian watermilfoil is an aquatic invasive plant. The LAA will use the money to treat 5.15 acres of milfoil beds in Lake Antoine with two herbicides to compare effectiveness, according to a memorandum from LAA Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Jayne.

Breitung board gives residents 30 days on past due water bills | News, Sports, Jobs

bchristensen@ironmountaindailynews.com QUINNESEC The Breitung Township Board agreed Monday to give Quinnesec and East Kingsford residents who have not paid their water bill up to 30 days from their next statement to pay the balance or set up a payment plan. A statewide moratorium on water shutoffs due to nonpayment expired March 31. Quinnesec and East Kingsford residents who are delinquent in payment will receive a notice with their next water bill. After 30 days, penalties would apply to the balance and residents may face shutoff. About125 of 1,000 accounts are past due, Breitung Township Superintendent Steve Mulka said. In other business, the board bought a 2-by-4-inch advertisement in the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce’s tabloid for $172.80. A quarter of the revenue goes back to the chamber for its 2021 advertising fund.
