OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis held a press conference earlier this week to talk about the 2021 signees as well as changes to the Rebels’ basketball program for the upcoming year. With seven new players heading to Oxford (three transfers and four high school signees), there was a lot to discuss. Coach Davis took questions about the new players, the roles of returning players, the impact of the transfer portal and the potential for inter-conference transferring.
Ole Miss Wins OT Thriller over Auburn, 86-84
What a week for Kermit Davis and the Rebels! Ole Miss followed up Tuesday’s big win against then-No.10 Tennessee with an 86-84 overtime victory at Auburn Saturday. It came down to the last shot in OT as senior PG Devontae Shuler hit the game winner just inside the top of the key to give the Rebels the two-point victory.
Ole Miss improves to 10-8 (5-6 SEC) and completes the season sweep of Auburn. The Tigers fall to 10-10 (4-7 SEC).
In the first matchup earlier this season, Tigers’ star guard Sharife Cooper did not play and the Rebels were able to walk away with an 11-point win at The Pavilion. This time around, Cooper and his squad made it a competitive one.

Ole Miss basketball will look to bounce back from humbling road loss against Alabama when it hosts Wichita State.
The Rebels (5-2, 0-1 SEC) have a perfect record at home though it was against less than heralded opponents. The Shockers (5-2, 2-0 AAC) have a perfect 2-0 record on the road, so something has to give in this one.
If the Rebels are going to pull off the upset in this game, it will have to avoid the mistakes from its last game with Bama. First and foremost, its starting guards combined for 10 points, and scoring got off to a slow start. Ole Miss is second in the SEC in points per game defense, and its tempo is much more plodding than in years past. If coach Kermit Davis is wanting to be a defense first kind of team, the Rebels have to build leads early and let its system go to work from there.
