Mountain Bike Discovery Night at Red Grade Trails The Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area, the Sheridan Community Land Trust, Sheridan Bicycle Company and Bomber Mountain Cycling Club invite the community to join them Thursday for Mountain Bike Discovery Night at Red Grade Trails. The ride will be from 6 to 8 pm and riders will meet at the Base Trailhead parking lot. All ages and ability levels are welcome and the ride is free to attend. Riders must bring their own bike and helmets are required. Land Trust Director of Marketing and Development Chris Vrba says the trails throughout Sheridan County are truly community trails.

Black Bear Killed in Self-Defense Southwest of Big Horn – Sheridan Media

On July 1, 2021, at approximately 6 p.m., Game and Fish personnel received a report that a black bear had been shot and killed by a homeowner near Red Grade Road. The responding game warden interviewed the homeowner and investigated the scene. He determined the bear, an adult female, was killed in self-defense after charging the homeowner at less than 10 yards. The warden searched the surrounding area, but found no cached carcass, cubs or other resource that the bear might have been defending, which may have explained the aggressive behavior. “Human-black bear encounters are rare and usually result in the bear fleeing the area,” said Sheridan Region Wildlife Supervisor Craig Smith. “However, this incident serves as a stark reminder that bears can be unpredictable and may exhibit aggressive behavior when they feel threatened.” Game and Fish personnel also responded to multiple other bear conflicts on July 1. Land Trust Director of Marketing and Development Chris Vrba says anyone interested in volunteering are asked to meet at the Springs Trailhead at Red Grade Trails prior to 6 pm and bring work gloves, study shoes and a water bottle. Posted On 0 likes 3 min The Sheridan Community Land Trust is excited to announce that Hidden Hoot Trail and Hoot Loop will reopen to the public on Saturday, May 8. The two trails, part of the Soldier Ridge Trail System, had been closed during calving season. SCLT Executive Director Brad Bauer thanked community members for visiting other trails during an important time on the ranch. Chris Vrbo is Director of Marketing and Development and reminded trail users that the trails will be a little rough when it is opened this weekend… “We greatly appreciated the patience and cooperation from trail visitors who ‘mooved’ off Hidden Hoot Trail and Hoot Loop during calving season. Not only does it emphasize how recreation and ranching can work hand in glove but it’s a reminder that it’s the people here who put the community in community trails,” Bauer remarked.
