The Baldwin County Historical Society announces a program and meeting planned for April 25, 2021 at the Loxley City Hall. The program will be presented by Mike Bunn, Director of Blakeley State Park and author of numerous historical books.
Mr. Bunn will present information from his recent, highly acclaimed book, Fourteenth Colony; The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America’s Revolutionary Era. In an interview in the March 2021 Mobile Bay Monthly, by Breck Pappas, Mike says that he spent a year researching this topic before gleaning enough information to start the writing project. Even though Florida did not formally rebel against British rule during the American Revolutionary War, there are many related facts and stories that have been unexplored until now. He details inner workings of the representative government, the early settlement of the area, and immigrant stories of the colony which stretched from Apalachicola River to the Mississippi River.
