One of the three invited guest speakers was Tom Visser, professor and director of the master s of science program in historic preservation at the University of Vermont. In the subsequent breakout session for Vermont, the main speakers, Vermont state architectural historian Devin Colman and Preservation Trust of Vermont field service representative Alex Tolstoi, greeted each other familiarly. Both graduates of Visser s program, they gave a shout-out to a third grad, Caitlin Corkins, tax credits and grants coordinator at the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, who didn t make it to the event.

Vermont s greenest building awards competition is now open for submissions

By Jim Westphalen   Vermont Green Building Network’s (VGBN) ninth annual Vermont’s Greenest Building Awards Competition is now open for submissions. This statewide competition recognizes exemplary residential and commercial buildings that excel in green building strategies – including water, health, transportation, and affordability – and meet the highest standard of demonstrated energy performance. Submissions are due on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 5 p.m. EST. Winners of the awards will be announced and showcased at VGBN’s annual Vermont Green Building Celebration this spring. Committee recommends bid for Wilmington public safety facility

Like us on Facebook.   WILMINGTON — All members of a committee tasked with planning a new building for the police and fire departments agreed with who they want to see take on the project. The Public Safety Facility Committee recommended hiring Bread Loaf Corporation of Middlebury if voters authorize borrowing for the project on annual Town Meeting Day in March. “They have 12 or 13 public safety facilities under their belt, mostly in Vermont,” Chuck Clerici, committee member, said at a special Select Board meeting held remotely Thursday. “It was a unanimous and resounding decision to recommend Bread Loaf.”
