‘Various strains’ of Covid-19 detected in the UAE

Dr Nawal noted that mutations are common in SARS-CoV-2 an RNA virus.
While a “limited number” of the UK strain of Covid-19 was found in the UAE, a top health official said several variants are already detected in the country.
“Strains are common and, yes, various strains have been detected but with these small changes, the treatment, management and vaccination method remain the same,” Dr Nawal Al Kaabi, Chairperson, National Covid-19 Clinical Management Committee, said.
“The difference with the most recent strain is its increased transmission rate,” said Dr Nawal, the Principal Investigator of Phase III Clinical Trial.

The coronavirus variant of coronavirus that has emerged from Brazil has fueled further concern among health officials in the UK and abroad. Professor Lawrence Young said that authorities must be keeping an eye on all new strains of the virus as experts are seeing more and more changes. Mutations of Covid-19 have been sparking concern around the globe with new strains spotted in several countries. One of these originated in England, but the latest has come from Brazil and was first identified in Japan. This week Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he is concerned about the new coronavirus variant which is believed to have emerged in Brazil but he stopped short of imposing a precautionary travel ban.
