‘Roots of Remembrance’ is a national initiative by The Royal Horticultural Society. Community groups, businesses, local authorities and schools are invited to plant trees to remember a loved one who has passed away during the pandemic. A Roots of Remembrance map showing the saplings taking root across the UK is viewable on the RHS’ website. Corbridge in Bloom chose the three trees which were planted. Two white stemmed birches were planted in the existing flowerbeds at Aydon Green and a golden upright beech is planted on Well Bank Green. Vice Chair of Corbridge Parish Council, Coun. Liz Buckley, said during the last parish council meeting (May 19) she hopes to organise a short service of remembrance later this summer.
