1 hiker dies, 2 significantly injured after falling at West Birch Creek in Umatilla County KATU Staff © Provided by KATU Portland One hiker died and two more were critically injured after the three fell off a ledge at Big Falls in Umatilla County, according to local authorities.  The Umatilla County Sheriff s Office said 23-year-old Kyler Carter called 911 Friday morning to report that he and his two friends, Cody Watson, 21, and Braydon Postma, 23, had been injured at West Birch Creek. Carter said they had actually fallen the night before, Thursday, around 9 p.m. but he had been unable to get cell phone service and had to climb back out and hike to a place where he could call 911.
