Stark County agrees to purchase Massillon gun range
Stark County is purchasing the former A.J. Harris Tactical in downtown Massillon to be a training facility for its sheriff s deputies and police officers around the county.
Stark County commissioners on Wednesday afternoon approved a purchase agreement to buy the property at 143 First St. SE for $699,000. The sale is expected to close in early March.
The sale is contingent on the property passing inspections, including that by the manufacturer of the gun range equipment, said Stark County Administrator Brant Luther.
Stark County Sheriff George Maier said his office would use the two-floor building s indoor gun range and the rest of the space as training and classroom space as well as a place for gun owners to apply for and renew their concealed-weapon permits.
CANTON Members of the Stark County Board of Elections want to know when county commissioners will decide whether to approve the proposed $6.5 million purchase of Dominion voting machines.
And the agency s chairman said the board will take legal action if commissioners keep putting off a decision.
After a 38-minute executive session Tuesday to discuss the purchase of property for public purposes, Board Chairman Samuel Ferruccio instructed the board staff to ask commissioners for a firm (decision) date on the voting machines. Then he said the board, which unanimously approved the purchase Dec. 9, would consider its legal options going forward.
When asked later if the subject of the executive session was the voting machines, Ferruccio said, You can read between the lines, but it s an executive session.”
