The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. Friday in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 351, close to the University Drive area when a pickup rear-ended a semi tractor and trailer that was slowing down in the middle lane as traffic slowed due to road construction.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the 53-year-old passenger from Detroit Lakes, Minn., remains hospitalized in Fargo with serious injuries. The 71-year-old driver was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital.
