Predator hunter groups work across Michiana, but officials say they do more harm than good

The videos follow a familiar format. The setting is a public space, often the parking lot of a mall or supermarket. The person holding the cell phone camera approaches the person believed to be meeting a minor for sex, and then the confrontation starts. “What are you doing here today, Jimmy, come on, man! You come out here to meet a 15-year-old girl?” begins one such video, posted to Facebook last week by the group Bikers Against Predators. In the video, “Jimmy” proceeds to stand outside the arcade area of the University Park Mall in Mishawaka repeating “That was stupid of me,” as members of the group berate him and inform him that he has been messaging with them and not an actual 15-year-old.

Brandywine teacher placed on leave after allegations of soliciting sex with a minor

NILES — A teacher at Brandywine Community Schools has been placed on administrative leave after school authorities learned of allegations against the person of soliciting sex with a minor. The civilian group, Bikers Against Predators, which is not law enforcement, posted a video on social media allegedly showing the Brandywine teacher arriving at a South Bend hotel room on April 2, allegedly to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex. Upon entering the hotel room, the person is instead met by two members of Bikers Against Predators, who question the person about the reason for being there. The Tribune is not naming the teacher because the person has not been charged with a crime. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office confirms it is investigating.
