If all goes as planned, Wapello Police Department (WPD) will be merged into the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) on April 1, following approval of a 28E agreement by the Louisa County Board of Supervisors during its regular weekly meeting on Tuesday.
According to the budget detail and previous discussions, total expenses for FY 23 are anticipated to be $538,942. That includes 3% salary hikes and 3% stipends/bonuses.
A Fiscal Year 2023 compensation package for Louisa County’s eight elected officials will not include any stipend, while a 75% reduction in the wage levels recommended by the county compensation board will remain.
Following a presentation by John Wenande, Iowa technical manager for EagleView, the board voted to accept a $68,310 proposal. Smith indicated about $30,000 will be available in the FY23 budget from the savings plan to cover a partial payment for the flights.
Turner said a full-time SRO with benefits and equipment will cost about $100,000; and under a preliminary, two-year 28E agreement, the school would pay 75% of that cost and the county would pick up the remaining 25%.
