PETERSBURG – After 32 years as an officer for the Petersburg Bureau of Police, people are finally calling Emanuel Chambliss “Chief.”
The Petersburg native was recently promoted to Deputy Chief of Police after having served a number of roles in the department, most recently as a Captain. He’s still getting used to the title change.
“I never imagined getting to the level that I’m at now. It’s strange hearing people call me Chief,” Chambliss said.
From a young age growing up in the city, Chambliss always wanted to become a police officer. It all began while watching westerns and police shows alongside his grandfather in the living room. Then at the age of 15, he joined the Police Explorers program alongside two childhood friends that lived on his street.
