Old school Ironman football might be dead, but Brandon Thompkins put on about as good of an Ironman show as you'll see in this day and age on Friday night. He scored seven TDs in a 76-56 win for the Orlando Predators over the Cleveland Gladiators, and he created a bit of history in the process.
TAMPA - At least this time, the Tampa Bay Storm didn't get blown out. That said, the Storm continued to set futility marks on offense with their third different starting quarterback of the season. Jonathan Bane tried his best, and he had Tampa Bay in a position to take the lead with less than a minute to go, but a couple passes over the heads of receivers in crucial spots ended any chance of the upset.
ORLANDO Have a night, Joe Hills. Odds have it, you've probably never heard of the man who holds the record for the most touchdowns in a game in AFL history. Kevin Prentiss played in the league for just five games, but in one of the five he scored nine TDs to set the league record. You'll probably have an easier time remembering the only other man the AFL has ever had to pull down eight or more TDs in a game.
Flashback to the year 2000 when the Los Angeles Avengers were seven games into their inaugural season. Just like the Los Angeles KISS, they had struggled to compete against some of the top teams in the league. All but one of their losses were by double digits, quarterbacks Todd Marinovich and Scott Semptimphelter were finding things difficult to maintain a starting spot, and their overall offense had sputtered game after game.
