DENVER The 40-year-old man who was arrested at Denver International Airport (DIA) last week and charged with abducting a 12-year-old girl is now fighting extradition. At a hearing Thursday morning in Denver District Court, Nathan Larson did not waive his right to an extradition hearing. As a result, a new court date was set for Jan. 28 and Larson will be held on $200,000 cash bond.
Nathan Daniel Larson, 40, of Catlett, faces felony charges in Fresno County, California, for kidnapping, child abduction, soliciting child pornography from a minor and meeting a child for the intention of sex. He also is charged with a misdemeanor for harboring a minor in Denver, where he was arrested.Â
Larson is currently in the Denver County Jail. He is scheduled to have a court hearing in Denver on Dec. 24, when an extradition request will be made to transport him to the Fresno County Jail.Â
A press release from the Fresno County Sheriffâs Office said that on the morning of Monday, Dec. 14, the Fresno County Sheriffâs Office and Fresno Police Department received a report of a missing 12-year-old Fresno girl. Early in the investigation, detectives received information that the girl may have been coerced into running away with an older man whom she had met through social media in mid-October.Â
“This particular case is extremely disturbing,” Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said.
Larson began communicating with the unnamed victim living in Fresno, California, mid-October through multiple social media platforms. He convinced the girl “through manipulation and grooming” to send him inappropriate images of herself, authorities said.
Eventually Larson flew from Virginia to Fresno, then about 2 a.m. Monday persuaded the girl to sneak out of her home, authorities said.
The two took a rideshare vehicle to the Fresno Airport, authorities said.
Larson made the girl wear a wig and told her to act as if she was disabled and unable to speak so she couldn’t converse with anyone as they boarded a plane, authorities said.
