AKRON, Ohio – As Northeast Ohioans prepare for yet another summer of staying home more than usual, they might be in for a surprise when readying their backyard pool: a nationwide chlorine shortage is driving up prices as stores struggle to get it in stock.

“There’s absolutely a supply shortage that we’re having,” said Brandon Leuchtag at Ohio Pools and Spas in Mayfield, which has implemented a purchase limit of 50 pounds of pool chlorine per person. “We had a ton on order, but it went from an order to ‘pending,’ which means we might not get a large order. It’s definitely affecting us.”
