The Brainerd American Legion dropped off meals Thursday, Nov. 24, and also offered a drive-thru pickup service of Thanksgiving meals as it has done in recent years during the holiday. There was no in-person dining, however, from years past because of the pandemic.
This weekend’s social event is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the splash pad in Memorial Park and will include a free meal of hot dogs, chips and drinks; tents with nonprofits; and games hosted by the club’s Leos, who are members ages 12-18.
The Brainerd American Legion has hosted an in-person community Thanksgiving dinner at Post 255 for years. Last year, vehicles waited around the block, however, as volunteers gave the meals to drivers from a tent outside the post, or home-delivered the dinners, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
