High schools: H-D boys’ hoop gets first win on last-second, half-court 3

The Hillsboro-Deering boys’ basketball team didn’t just get their first win of the season on Monday night at John Stark. The Hillcats got a half-court-3-pointer, buzzer-beating, go-bananas win.
Stark (2-7) took a two-point lead with 4.8 seconds to play on a bucket from Chad Martin. H-D called a timeout and drew up a play for Zack Coombs, but the ball had to go the length of the floor and the Generals doubled Coombs … but that left another Coombs open, his older brother Owen. He was just over half court, but with time running down the elder Coombs launched a shot that went in as time ran out and gave H-D a 63-62 decision.
