Red Roof Cafe owner Maureen Therese Doubek, 60, of Helena, was found guilty by a jury of felony accountability to arson in connection with a 2018 fire that destroyed the local restaurant.Â
The jury members deliberated for more than four hours before returning their guilty verdict on Monday. The jury found Doubek not guilty of felony conspiracy.
Her trial lasted nearly a week and saw prosecutors and the defense interview more than five witnesses. Among those witnesses was Brad Rae Richardson, who admitted to setting fire to the Westside Helena cafe on Oct. 20, 2018, and said he did so at the behest of Doubek.
A jury trial began Tuesday for the owner of Red Roof Cafe, who was charged for her alleged dealings with the man who set fire to the Helena restaurant in 2018.Â
Maureen Therese Doubek, 60, of Helena, was charged with felony conspiracy, or in the alternative, felony accountability to arson following the Oct. 20, 2018, burning of the Red Roof Cafe on Helena s Westside.
Court documents alleged that Doubek conspired with Brad Rae Richardson to burn down the cafe. Richardson admitted to burning down the cafe and claimed he did so at the request of Doubek, with promises of payment in the amount of $14,000.
