Neighbours and friends reported the couple had a volatile relationship with loud arguments over finances and infidelity.
On the day of her death, Collins called the daycare centre to tell them her partner’s parents were not allowed to pick up her son. The Crown’s theory was that she was planning on leaving Borbely and taking their child with her.
She didn’t get the chance.
Investigators found Borbely bought four 20-litre buckets from the Bracebridge Home Depot the following day and believe he drove Collins’ body in the trunk of his car to a Mary Lake work site where he was employed by contractor Jeremy Crease. It was there he cut her body into 12 pieces and placed them in the buckets.
