RBI Introduces Programmability And Offline Functions In Retail e-Rupee Pilot

The Reserve Bank of India has introduced programmability and offline functionality in its central bank digital currency (retail) pilot. Currently, the CBDC-R enables only person-to-person and person-to-merchant transactions using digital rupee wallets. However, the regulator will now introduce these additional use cases through pilots in a gradual manner, Governor Shaktikanta Das said in his monetary policy statement on Thursday.

IMF Cautions Maldives Against High Risk Of External And Overall Debt Distress

The Maldives’ post-pandemic growth has been strong, but fiscal and external vulnerabilities have increased, calling for urgent policy adjustment, according to the International Monetary Fund. “Without significant policy changes, the overall fiscal deficits and public debt are projected to stay elevated, and the Maldives remains at high risk of external and overall debt distress," the IMF said in its Article IV mission on the island country.

Mutual funds industry recorded an inflow in January after as equity fund inflows rose on investments in multi-cap and small-cap schemes. Net investment into equity and equity-linked schemes witnessed an inflow of Rs 1.23 lakh during the month, as per data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India on Thursday.

LIC Declares Interim Dividend Of Rs 4 Per Share

Life Insurance Corp. declared on Thursday an interim dividend of Rs 4 per equity share for the current financial year. In a meeting, the board of directors fixed Feb. 21 as the record date for the purpose of ascertaining the eligibility of shareholders. The dividend will be paid within 30 days from the date of declaration, according to an exchange filing on Thursday. The state-run insurer had paid a final dividend of Rs 3 per share in July last year.
