Aya Daisey
Aya’s father Blaine hung over the fence watching his twin daughters, now seniors, compete in a track meet. Blaine was a Cape school record holder in the long jump with a distance of 22-feet-10-inches, ran a sub-11-second 100 meters and was the winner of the Kevin Kennedy Award in 1983. Aya is a cross-fit sprinter in the pool and on the track. Like most sprinters, she can jump far when she is motivated. In the April 27 meet, Aya won the long jump in 15-feet-5-inches, edging out her sister Amaya, who jumped 15-2. Aya was first in the 200 meters with a time of 27.4 seconds, then won the high jump in 4-feet-6-inches, where she owns a personal best of 5-feet. And in the 4-by-100, Aya took the baton on the anchor leg to lead the team of Mehkia Applewhite, Kiki Johnson and Amaya Daisey to a come-from-behind win in 55.8.
