cost of healthcare, the cost of insurance here in pennsylvania. we have unemployment in this state over 12%. i know people laid off. it hit my families years ago and i watched it. people would take a job if they were there. the problem isn t the unemployment legislation. the problem is the economy. george bush and public policy gave us the worst recession since the great depression. that was the problem. shannon: pennsylvania attorney general tom corbett squaring off with dan anarato in the latest debate between the candidates for governor of pennsylvania. there are a number of close races to watch in pennsylvania, including the senate race betweens joe sestak and pat toomey. the latest real clear politics average shows toomey with an eight-point lead. another interesting race to watch in pennsylvania. match-up in the 12th house district in the late john murtha seat. they are neck in neck. a race experts are listing as a toss-up.
that is not it at all. the dry cleaner down the street, the pizza shop owner down the street. but chris coons owns a 17-point lead in the race. i went from being significantly down to significantly up in the polls. it is a positive in terms of my chances in the election but i don t think it has been positive for delaware. take a look at colorado. a neck and neck race there. only two points separating michael bennett from gop challenger ken buck. the two candidates went face to face too today on meet the pr senator bennett does one thing in washington, d.c. and comes back to colorado and talks about a completely different thing. he has spent on his watch in washington, d.c. part of the spending of $3 trillion. the budget proposal that he made would blow without even talking to the tax cutting expenses into $1.3 trillion more of a hole into the budget than we already have. with so many tight races
shannon: we have. julie kirtz, thank you for the update. sure. shannon: in west virginia, governor joe manchin may gain popularity and boost in the poll but the unpopularity of president obama there could cost manchin the election. joining with us a look at the showdown in mountain state is sean trendy, am list for real clear politics. great to have you in today. thank you for having me. shannon: west virginia, months ago it would have looked like governor manchin walked to this. the polls tightp and we have an outliar poll that shows a ten-point lead. it s a poll done by democratic polling firm, campaign manager for a current democratic candidate as head of the company that commissioned it. most of the polls show a close race. two or three-point and we expect it to stay tight up to the end. shannon: i understand the real clear politics average this morning gives manchin 2-1/2-point advantage there. so it s still tight, margin of error for a lot of polls. why do you think
there is an awful lot of money coming in. both candidates well funded. in the last cycle, patty murray won by 12 points but this year it looks like it s different. shannon: let s look south of washington state out there in california. look at your polling for the boxer-fiorina race. incumbent democrat, republican challenger there. it looks like just a two-point advantage for the incumbent democrat barbara boxer. it s interesting this morning, carly fiorina was exclusively a guest on fox news sunday. chris asked her about the endorsements out there. here is a bit of the show from this morning. her hometown newspaper refused to endorse her. describing her as so bitterly partisan that she is in effective. this is a state with huge problems. in fairness, i have to say the paper also didn t like you very much and didn t endorse you either, miss fiorina. that is true. san francisco chronicle could not bring itself to endorse me. i am a conservative and proud
it pits democrat chris coons against christine o donnell. the race attracted a lot of attention because o donnell came out of no where to upset mike castle in the primary. this sunday o donnell and coons were out on the sunday talk shows. the party isn t helping us and we are asking help. we have the democratic committee coming after me. we are hoping that the national republican senatorial committee will help us. she has run for the united states senate three times in the last five years. what is persist explosive. what do you think that is all about? i think my grandmother would have said she has a lot of moxie. coons is still way ahead. the latest rcp average has coons at 64.6% and o donnell at just 37. shannon: senate candidate
