This is the first Vietnamese movie to earn that much domestically, only nine days after its premiere on March 5, according to distributor Galaxy. Previously, Hai Phuong (Furie), an action flick produced by Ngo Thanh Van, also made VND200 billion after appearing on both domestic and international screens. Bo Gia has shattered the local box office record of Cua Lai Vo Bau (Win My Baby Back), which earned VND192 billion ($8.34 million) in 2019.

According to Box Office Vietnam, the country’s film industry hit three remarkable milestones last year. The first milestone was on July 17, when South Korean action-horror film ‘Peninsula’ premiered and, in just two weeks, posted revenues of VND70 billion (US$3 million).  Comparatively, box offices across the country generated a combined turnover of VND57 billion ($2.47 million) between July 1 and 16.

According to Box Office Vietnam, movie revenues in the first three days of the new year were worth VND32 billion ($1.4 million) as 225 cinemas opened during the holidays. Theaters in HCMC quickly sold all their tickets for the first three days of the year. In cinemas, there have been three new releases, ‘Vo Sinh Dai Chien’ (Battle of Pupils), ‘Monster Hunter’ and animation film ‘Dragon Rider’.
