THE construction of 53 affordable eco-homes is soon to begin. The cohousing neighbourhood, being developed by Bridport Cohousing next to Bridport Community Hospital , will go by the name of ‘Hazelmead’ and is scheduled to be completed in early summer 2022. The infrastructure of the neighbourhood is almost completed and before long the timber frame components will be delivered and houses will begin to appear on the site. The idea of a cohousing neighbourhood is to give each household its own self-contained private home as well as a shared community space, as a way to counter feelings of isolation and recreating the neighbourly support of years passed.
