A report from the Saskatchewan Environmental Society suggests this province could have a carbon-neutral electrical gid by 2040.
SES Vice-President, Bob Halliday, says the report is an update of one that was released in 2013.
Most recommendations weren’t met, but Halliday says SaskPower is heading in the right direction with wind power.
He believes the announcement of de-commissioning of the Boundary Dam Power Station units that weren’t converted to carbon capture and storage show the Crown Corporation was following some of their recommendations.
Another recommendation in the earlier report was to connect with Manitoba Hydro for another source of power in Saskatchewan.
The recent federal budget promised tax credits for carbon capture projects. What can we learn about the economics of carbon capture from the world's only fully-functioning carbon capture project at Boundary Dam 3 in Saskatchewan?
As of Monday evening, it has raised more than $84,000, with a goal of $100,000. There have been nearly 1,000 donors. Benning wrote Sunday night that Syed had succumbed to the COVID-19 virus that afternoon. He leaves behind his wife and three young children. The funeral/burial was held April 26 at the Riverside Memorial Park cemetery in Regina. Benning wrote that he would be raising the goal of the GoFundMe to continue supporting Syed’s family and newborn daughter. “Please continue to keep them in your prayers through this difficult time and thank you for all the support thus far,” Benning wrote. Benning wrote on April 22 that Misbah gave birth to a beautiful baby girl the previous day. By all accounts, Misbah herself and the baby are doing very well.
REGINA A young father in Regina died from COVID-19 on Sunday, leaving behind his wife and three young children. His youngest daughter was born just days before his death. Ali Syed and his then-pregnant wife, Misbah, were admitted to the hospital with severe COVID-19 symptoms at the end of March. He was later admitted to ICU. Syed was employed by SaskPower, and worked at the Boundary Dam Power Station in Estevan. “He had work ethics and he was a great person to have on our team. He really, really was soft hearted, kind. He had lots of kindness, really touched many people within our community,” Kevin Guillemin director of power production at Boundary Damn said. “Everybody hoped for a different outcome, everybody hoped for Ali to recover from this, but now of course the money raised can definitely go to help Ali’s family.”
