The crumbling foundation of the old Mercy hospital remained a large eyesore and the restaurant scene was just getting started when Emily McLaurin started her residency at St. Anthony Hospital in Midtown.
But by the time she finished her residency in 2009, Midtown was a neighborhood in a midst of transition with an influx of restaurants, shops, entertainment and housing. She lived in Midtown with her husband and worked at St. Anthony for five years after her residency.
McLaurin eventually moved away from Midtown as her family grew to include three children, and the doctor spent a couple of years volunteering her time at Ministries of Jesus.
