Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross, a man with no policies except the refusal to hold a second independence referendum YET another glossy leaflet from DRoss and the Baroness via Royal Mail this week, this time a threefold, poster-sized, full colour one. Where do they get the money for it? It was also cunningly designed so that, whichever side was up when it landed on the mat, the message was the same –How to stop another independence referendum. Included were cuttings from newspapers which in some cases, though not exactly untrue, conveyed a false impression, in particular “SNP to plough £600k into indyref”, with no clarity that this was from PARTY funds, not public. That prompted me to wonder just what the grand total of expenditure was on the now disbanded Union Unit, set up specifically to fight the Unionist side of the constitutional question, and whether this came from party funds or the public purse. I think we should be told.
As we continue to tackle the COVID pandemic, it is important to remember the climate emergency hasn’t gone away – far from it. That’s why on 6th May it must be Both Votes SNP to re-elect Nicola Sturgeon and an SNP government to secure a green recovery and a greener Scotland. The SNP in government will continue Scotland’s global leadership on climate action by continuing to invest millions every year in renewable energy and increasing progress towards becoming a net-zero nation. We already have the most ambitious legal framework for emissions reduction in the world – with targets of a 75% reduction in emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2045, as well as being carbon neutral by 2040.
FOR two weeks I have enjoyed the welcome respite of not having to put up with the invariably crabbit Ruth Davidson searching like a lurcher in the dark to get a smidgeon of the reflected limelight that surrounds the First Minister. If I’m honest, deep down I had suspicions . well, really I kind of knew it was too good to last. Now I say help me and mine as it’s all gone diabasticle! Is it just that Ruth is back too soon or has she just never really been away? Media reports suggest that the pesky DRoss needs strategic reinforcement – some are even suggesting he is to be subbed. He talks about being the leader of his strong team. Huh, it’s not even half time in the election and he’s got problems wi’ his boots – he can’t fill the ones he’s been given and in spite of great exhortations he’s also having trouble keeping his socks pulled up. Aye weel, as the old saying goes pick the runt of the litter and you’ll always regret it.
