Boston Acting Mayor Kim Janey wants to remove the acting from her title. Janey, 55, announced plans Tuesday to run for mayor this fall, becoming the sixth major candidate to formally join the race. In a statement, Janey said it will take longer than a few months as acting mayor to deal with the challenges the city faces from the pandemic and centuries of structural racism. Suffolk hires top Boston construction leader

Suffolk has nabbed the city of Boston s highest-ranking construction executive, in an effort to build and expand the construction firm s relationships in government and business. Beginning April 16, Boston Chief of Operations Patrick Brophy will join Suffolk as senior director of external affairs in the Northeast.  A 26-year veteran of Boston city government, Brophy served in administrations for three mayors, including Marty Walsh, who recently left the city to become U.S. Labor Secretary. The Operations Department includes the city s property management, inspections and public facilities departments and is responsible for executing Boston s multi-year, $900 million capital building program, according to a city press release.

Boston Arts Academy marks major milestone in construction of new $125 million facility in Fenway

As questions arise over funding for the Massachusetts Turnpike project in Allston, state officials and local residents said they are considering residents’ quality of life along with the project’s funding sources and biggest beneficiaries. Harvard has already committed hundreds of millions of dollars to the project — formally known as the Allston Multimodal Project — which will replace the aging viaduct along Soldiers Field Road, straighten the Massachusetts Turnpike that runs through Allston, and clear up 130 acres of Harvard-owned land for development. It will also improve bicycle and pedestrian pathways, establish the West Station stop on the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line, and create more green spaces along Charles River, per the state’s Department of Transportation website.
