Gateshead Council is the local government authority for the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. The council, based at Gateshead Civic Centre, is made up of twenty two electoral wards, each with three elected councillors. It is currently Labour controlled, and led by Councillor Martin Gannon.
