Leger-Walker Sets WSU Freshman Record for Most 20-Point Games in a Loss at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. – Charlisse Leger-Walker set the WSU freshman record for most 20-point games on Sunday, Feb. 14, but the Cougars could not complete the comeback against Arizona State, as they fell to the Sun Devils, 67-61. Leger-Walker recorded 29 points against ASU to register her 10th game with 20-or-more points this season, as she passes Borislava Hristova for the WSU freshman record for most games with 20-or-more points. The guard s 29-point performance on Sunday matches her career-high in points, which is the third game this season that Leger-Walker has equaled her career-best scoring performance. The freshman shot 53.3% from the field, as she made eight of her 15 shots on the day, which included a game-high four 3-point field goals.

Kiwi prodigy Charlisse Leger-Walker making shots and turning heads in college hoops

Charlisse Leger-Walker has had an outstanding first season of college basketball in the United States. Washington State Cougars women’s basketball coach Kamie Ethridge had a fair idea Kiwi hoops phenom Charlisse Leger-Walker was something special from the day she started scouting her. You don’t, after all, make a trip to Mongolia to watch any old run-of-the-mill scrub. But even Ethridge, a collegiate all-American at Texas, 1988 Olympic gold medallist and now highly respected coach, has been astounded by the ease and dominance with which the 19-year-old from Hamilton has negotiated her freshman year with the Cougars in the loaded Pac-12 conference of NCAA division 1 hoops.

Cougs Hit the Road Again this Friday at No 13 Oregon

STARTING FIVE The Cougs come into the Friday s matchup against the Ducks looking to get back into the win column after dropping back-to-back overtime games last weekend at USC (81-77) and at No. 6/6 UCLA (68-66). Washington State still holds a 7-3 mark on the year, while they stand at 5-3 in the Pac-12 play. Washington State will be looking for redemption at Oregon on Friday, as the Cougars seek to avenge a 69-65 loss to the Ducks in Pullman back on Dec. 21. There were 10 ties and four lead changes the last time these two met, with Washington State leading for over 31 minutes in the contest. The Cougars had a chance at a potential game-winning shot in the closing seconds of the game, but their 3-point field goal from the corner sailed long, as Oregon was able escape Beasley Coliseum with a four-point win.
