the democratic caucus on the hill and democratic voters don t see the necessity for the wall. what are republicans offering in return and if you give money, a couple billion dollars, whatever the figure is for the wall, will your constituents say well, you caved to the president and doesn t get anything back? it s a myth to think democratic voters or democratic members of congress don t support border security. we do. we understood that meant making investments in securing the boarder. you could have demands for permanent protection for dreamers. i think we ll protect dreame dreamers. this is about one specific issue, securing the borders for a limited purpose before february 15 but there is no question democrats will move forward on fixing our broken immigration system, taking care of dreamers, taking care of those with temporary protective status. we don t need to be given anything to secure our borders.
particularly when, as you heard the president last night, makes a claim that he wants a more bipartisan cooperative environment? i can t answer that, jim, you ll have to ask the president that one. the way i look at it is they re giving me directions here from the side. i m sorry. the way i look at it is illegal immigrants commit crimes, legal immigrants commit crimes, non-immigrant americans commit crimes, that is not really the issue with respect to immigration. the issue with respect to immigration is that, in my opinion, legal immigration, i think we all concede and agree with, makes our country stronger but illegal immigration is illegal and one way and you know how i feel about this, one way, not the only way but a big part of the way to curtail illegal immigration is through a wall. let me ask you this.

without basing it on statutory power that the president already has. who gave the president that statutory power? the united states congress. you can debate whether we should or should haven t done it, but we did it. i ve done enough research, i m not an expert but i ve done enough research to know if the president decides to go that route, his claims will be heard. he won t be thrown out of court for frivolous litigation. i m not recommending that. we have worked this out by speaking for me personally, i m not willing to just say to speaker pelosi look, it s possible to secure 1900 miles of real estate without a barrier because i don t believe that and experience shows it s not true and i say this gently with the respect i can muster. i think speaker pelosi has to decide how important policy is
awaiting senate floor action amid the government shutdown as the lawmakers are heading back to work trying to find a way out o, but the president is digging in on the demands of a border wa wall. we have to start with the markets, because this roller coaster week on the markets is showing no signs of slowing down. looking at where the markets stand right now, about 330 points down. following a surge wednesday where the dow saw the biggest single-day gain ever, but it is causing the whiplash among in s investors, and here to try to the make sense of it is cnbc s leslie picker, and why are we seeing this fluctuation? whiplash is the perfect word to describe the markets this year. it is not that many trading over the holiday week, and the bid asks that you are seeing in the market, you are seeing a lot of selling pressure today as a look at the di mminished gainers tha
