Saint Lucia records 39 new cases of COVID-19

Wednesday March 10, 2021 the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation of 39 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory. The results are from a batch of 186 samples taken on March 8 and March 9, and processed on March 9, 2021.
Twenty-seven of the cases are inmates from the Bordelais Correctional Facility. These individuals were assessed and tested for COVID-19 at the facility and were placed in quarantine awaiting receipt of their test results. Presently, these individuals have all been placed in isolation.
The other twelve individuals are from the community and were seen at various respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting receipt of their test results. On February 28, 2021 the Ministry of Health received confirmation from the Ezra Long Laboratory of 105 positive COVID-19 tests results for inmates at the Bordelais Correctional Facility. The Ministry of Health also received 19 negative test results for 17 inmates and 2 correctional officers. This was from a testing activity for the Bordelais Correctional Facility staff and inmates which was conducted on February 23, 2021.
The Ministry of Health has given the following recommendations and undertaken the necessary actions:
1. Testing through the use of rapid antigen testing for the COVID-19 screening for inmates and correctional facility staff.
2. The separation of inmates based on the results of their COVID-19 antigen tests
