Marc Minkowski is not renewed in Bordeaux

French conductor Marc Minkowski, 58, will not be renewed as General Manager and Music Director of the Bordeaux Opera, according to a press release published by the house. The second and last term of Minkowski’s contract (running since 2016) expires in August 2022. However, the musician is supposed to « maintain an artistic role in the coming seasons, starting in 2022-2023 » and, at the same time, « continue his international orchestral conducting activity, which was incompatible with a definitive integration within the municipal institution ».
Marc Minkowski announced another project in the process: « I also intend to create in Bordeaux and the New Aquitaine region a unique festival dedicated to new musical experiences. »
